Here Turkey Turkey...

So, I have never been a fan of dedicating an entire day to eating yourself silly on food that you could probably live most of your life without, BUT I must say that I always look forward to seeing my whole family. This year we even did the whole "let's go around the table and tell everyone what you are thankful for." I thought this was such a great thing because I don't think we see that tender side of everyone all the time.

This Thanksgiving we made another jaunt over to the Grow's for the big feast. It is amazing how quiet our family can be without one component and as soon as they arrive, the silence ceases permanently. I have a few pictures that we took while there because my mom is on a mission to take pictures of everyone, at every event. She has a purpose, it just sometimes seems never ending.

From left to right (Bri Grow, Stacey Grow, Kati, Samantha Grow, Emma, Stephanie Grow, Rosemary Grow) -Way for Emily and I to represent the Roos' :)

In other news...the semester is finally coming to a close and I can not wait to get myself out of the classes I am in. I have really enjoyed my Power basics class, but I am now sure it is time to move on to finishing my degree.

Here is a picture of the flowers I received yesterday. I'd like to believe that someone likes me.

All other Thanksgiving pictures are on my photo blog. check them out!

A Few Lessons Learned From the Big Apple...

For Emily's 18th birthday all she wanted to do was go to New York. How I became apart of the traveling party I am unsure, but I was there and I learned a few things while there...
Background: Emily, Stacey, and I ventured to NYC just for the weekend and stayed with Tom and Louise Plummer along with their dog Alice. They are quite a funny family and they had no idea who I was, but it was fun nonetheless!
NYC: The school of life lessons...
*As long as you're "trying" not to have that starbucks coffee, it is perfectly acceptable to hold a valid temple recommend.*DISCLAIMER: It is hot chocolate...sheesh!*

*Uncle Tom tends to wear the same outfit two days in a row, even at 1am.

*Best place to get cheap designer apparel and accessories are in basements or vans; these make good dressing rooms as well.
*Never let Stacey shop alone...she has a tendancy to over spend, on the same thing. Three purses for oneself in one trip gets a little excessive.

*If you're looking for a political tour of NYC sign up for the grey bus. You pay $44 for a rain poncho and a middle aged cynical tour guide that has dated successful women who obviously kicked him to the curb when he couldn't keep his views to himself.

*You know you're not in Utah anymore when you are the only three people on the tour to get even a little excited about the temple.

*After 44 hours of being awake, the train is an acceptable place to sleep.
*The subway at midnight is a scary place...if there are police with bullet proof vests, walk in the other direction. *Looking for the best frozen hot chocolate you'll ever have? Wait in line for an hour and a half and pay $8.50 for the experience.*Taking pictures in front of Central Park after shopping on Canal Street makes it look like you are on a humanitarian project to clean up the litter in the park.
*Always buy Empire State Building tickets in advance, you'll feel like a celebrity.*The closest you will come to Alice is her best friend...the flying pig statue*Stacey has no sense of direction...Kati and Emily never seem to remember this until we are three aves in the wrong direction
*Tom and Louise still operate on Mountain Standard Time, well at least their sleeping habits reflect this.

*Apparently Les Miserables is a tear jerker for teeny boopers.
*New Yorkers cannot control their umbrellas. It is your job to keep your face and limbs out of their way.

*Taking a taxi to the airport does not guarantee that you will be dropped off at your terminal.

*If you want a real show, walk the streets of New York at night the weekend before Halloween. You will be amazed.

*Upper Manhattan, one of the only places I know that people keep their house doors unlocked and bar up their cars.

*And finally...the toilet handle must be pushed up.

Out of nowhere...

I felt inspired by Rach's post about how she only checks other people's wishing they would update and never really checks her own...I'm a big offender of this and thought I would do my part to give an update, and even a couple of pictures!

Well, I've decided that when you are a newly single girl...once guys find out about it, they just come out of the woodwork, honestly. This, or people feel so bad for you that they invite you to random outings that you normally would not be included in. Either way I haven't had a moment to myself for a few days and at this point I'm okay to keep it that way, at least for awhile.
The reason I bring this up is I had quite the eventful weekend with many encounters with new people as well as a few blasts from the past. Friday night I hungout with a few people from work and their friends. Surprisingly it wasn't awkward at all and I got to meet new people, which was fun and I even hungout with them again last night. Saturday was when my adventure really started. It was Katrina Thurnau's wedding and since I had to RSVP weeks in advance I could not bail (even though it was snowing and it was supposed to be outside). So, Katy Roberts, whom I haven't seen in about a year, ventured to this very foreign wedding where we knew no one. The ceremony was very nice, but after we kept thinking that we should just leave because we didn't know anyone, until Kerrie Simmonds called and said her and the baby were in the parking lot and hoped that we were there. It was fun to catch up with them. And here are a few pictures from the wedding.

During the wedding I got a text message from a boy saying that him and a few friends were hanging out and I should come. I thought, why not...I have nothing better to do. So I meet up with them and it turned out to be really fun. There are some pretty funny people in this world. So the best part of this story, Sunday...I am explaining to Emily how a certain someone emailed me to apologize for the past and was really sorry about the way things ended. Well, no sooner do I finish telling the story do I get a text message from that person asking if we can "meet up" because he wants to "catch up with an old friend." Umm...why in the world would he come back now? Is it because I'm single, or because he is no longer getting married, maybe both.

Moral of the story...guys can't bare to see girls that are single and so they must try and keep them company, right? ...yes I know that isn't their motive.

*Disclaimer: If you would like to learn more about the people mentioned in this blog, please see Kati for further details.

Living in the world of numbers...permanently.

So we all know that I seem to have had some pretty crappy luck as of late and I was feeling as though I just couldn't catch a break...with anything. This I will not plunge into too deeply, I will focus more on what has given me some sort of light in my life :)

I was sitting in a somewhat lengthy Accounting team meeting, listening to Mike explain his extensive week, thinking about how unexciting mine my plan was compared to all the important things he had listed, when he turned to me and said "Kati, are you still interested in working for Accounting full time." My heart started to speed up as my eyes got wide and I stutter "Y-y-yes." After I regrouped alittle I found out that I will be switching to the accounting department full time within the next few weeks. No details have really been figured out, but I assume this is my boost in some confidence that has been needed over the last few weeks.

Not as exciting as the "crappy" weekend my sisters had, but at least its an update, and a positive one at that!

Utah Football and Beta Alpha Psi

So it has started, the thing I have waited about 10 months for...Utah football. Granted we have already lost 3 players to injuries and have had our egos destroyed in the first two games, but ya know what? It is all okay because Ben and I are residing on the 2nd row for the entire season and don't worry I have a picture to show you how cute we look rockin' the 2nd row.

(aren't we all excited that the stache is gone? Oh don't worry, now we have a mohawk...I'm sure I'll get a picture of that as well)

Anyways, hopefully this week the team can at least not look like complete idiots against UCLA, but we can make no guarantees.

This semester I decided to join the Accounting club Beta Alpha Psi to get exposure to many of the firms and do some schmoozing with the big wigs at other firms...just to keep options open. I truly have no intention of leaving Wasatch if they will keep me around, but you can never be too sure and thus I am ready for whatever comes my way. Beta Alpha Psi has already taught me a lot about what my degree can offer me with the sort of jobs that are available, so if not for anything else, I know what is possible for me.

Weddings...and Fall Semester

It seems as though when you turn 21 all of your friends start to get married, or drop like flies (reference made in last blog's title). Sometimes I just look at the pictures and keep thinking that they are playing house or something because we are all too young to get married, which I'm sure many would agree. Regardless of what people think, these girls still got married and her are some pictures from Brianna and Chelsey's wedding even though the pictures from Chelsey's wedding don't even include her, but they are cute of Ben and I. You can see them all on my picture page, but here are some.

This is at Brianna's reception at Aspen Landing (I think thats what it is called) on March 16, 2007. (left to right, Marie, Amber, Brianna, Me)

This picture to the left is Ben and I at Chelsey Giles' wedding on Friday. It was fun to see some people from high school, but mostly people that used to be in the ward. Ben was so good, he just sat there and let me chat for like an hour and a half....probably because he was pre-occupied with the food.

Fall Semester seems to have meshed with summer semester because I don't feel that I got any sort of a break inbetween the two of them. Fall is going to be a lot more scheduled and rigid than summer was, which will get old quick, but I am excited for my classes. This semester I start my classes for my major and even fit in a class with Ben.

Dropping like flies...

Last week I had the pleasure of throwing a bridal shower for Chelsey Giles, whom I have known for like 15 years (okay so Mom really did everything and I can only take credit for buying part of the gift and some of the food). Anyway, I have a few pictures from it that I thought I would share.
This one, to the left, is obviously Emma and me, but I put this up partly to show that her and I don't really look that much alike and simply because I think it is a good picture of the two of us.

The next one is a picture of Angela Jones, Chelsey, Mary Lynn and I. We all grew up together and this was basically our young womens (Tabitha is missing from the picture) and so it was fun to get together again.

Also last week I went to the Fray concert with Stacey Grow and saw pretty much half of my graduating class and various others from my life...few of which had any idea who the heck I was. It was quite entertaining because I could avoid them and not feel bad because they would have no idea. I saw some people that I hungout with in middle school, namely Chase Jardine who lost a whole person on his mission. The only reason I even recognized him was the fiery red hair. I couldn't get over all night.

Wrapping up July...

I've decided that I need to be a little better at posting some blogs on my page. Even though my sisters basically cover the family portion of my life I figure I can still have my input and then add a few points of interest along the way.

Well, as of last night I am officially finished with Stats for the rest of my college career and could not be happier about it. I took my final in about 25 minutes and in this case it was a good thing. Then I had a relaxing night seeing the movie Transformers. If you walk into it thinking it will be ridiculous, you'll like it.

Last weekend I took my first trip to Lava Hot Springs and didn't even go to the hot pots, but I did manage to accompany Ben and his siblings down the river in tubes. Don't worry I was warned that I should lean back and stay to the left on a certain waterfall so that I didn't fall out of my tube and land myself on the rocks and of course the second time around I managed to completely submerge myself only to surface and find Ben laughing along with his parents who watched from afar. I'm pretty sure I made quite the impression on the Heiner family...they now know that I am an odd duck.

So one of my life goals was to be able to run the Deseret News 10k...and run the whole thing. I finally accomplished this goal and thanks to Rach, I even have a few pictures to show for it. My time was 48:12, which I was fairly happy with even though I had to stop and tie my shoe AND I got a little too friendly with a parking cone.

Reb thinks I look like I'm going to die in these pictures...but by this point I was so happy to see the finish line, I didn't care what I looked like :)

This is Vic, Beck and I after the race...Beck made sure that no one was touching her...thus why we all look like we don't want to be close to one another.

Those were some the exciting events that happened in July and now entering August I will be ending a school semester and beginning another one...never a dull moment around here.

Business School

Today I got a letter from the David Eccles School of Business accepting me into the Accounting program! Woohoo for that! So, now I just have to go to a meet and greet so I can be coded into my major. That's a load off my back...

Boston

Well, Ben and I (and Stacey) went on quite the adventure to Boston. Since we couldn't get on any of the flights out of Salt Lake, Stacey had the great idea of having us drive to Vegas. It was really spur of the moment. We just jumped in the car and were on our way. Once in Vegas we stayed at the Palace Station (for about four hours), then headed to the airport for a day of flying. First we flew from Vegas to Long Beach, and after a small layover we were on a flight to Boston.

We reached Boston at about 8pm Thursday night and then left Tuesday morning for another day of flying (and a nice long drive home from Vegas). It was really fun and I made Ben pose for a lot of fun pictures so we have something to show for it.
